Wishing on a Star Quilt Block
There's a fine thread between being a fabric collector and a hoarder.
Ashli Montgomery
Me. I said that!
Because I live in the space of that one little thread.

If only that was all of it instead of a tiny portion of my collection 🙈
Every December I pledge to use up the fabric I already own before purchasing any more in the new year. Somehow, however, my fabric collection never seems to dwindle.
Wishing on a Star
December also brings thoughts of new opportunities.
When I think of 2026, my mind begins rattling off goals and resolutions and all the things I wish I would accomplish in the new year:
- Publish 6 books in 12 months
- Read 52 books in 52 weeks
- Practice yoga all 365 days
- Complete 1 UFO per month
- Donate 30% of my closet
- Transform 5% of my fat to muscle
- Lead a small group of women in a 6-Week Bible Study I've been dreaming about
- Discover 1 literary agent who believes in my work
Oh, and...
- Use up some fabric!
I'm getting a jump on that last item with my Quilt Block Mania design for this month, an 8-point star made by improv-piecing scraps and remnants to create the featured star.
Here are the block instructions: Wishing on a Star Quilt Block Instructions

Someone wise and famous said that without a plan, goals are just wishes, and honestly, I'm okay with that... I mean, who doesn't love wishing on a star.
I can't wait to see your improv stars! Please use the hashtags below when sharing photos online so they'll find their way into my algorithm and have fun de-stashing in the new year 🤩
